Reviews Pain
Christopher Reiner has chosen Baudelaire's parables as models for his own tales of postmodern life. Reiner's language is even simpler than Baudelaire's -- lean, clean, and amiably minimalist. The simplicity of style, however, belies a complexity of event: written with greater subtlety than Baudelaire's edgy caricatures, the stories of PAIN invite several readings to savor the nuances of human interaction. --John Olson, Rain Taxi
