Lissa McLaughlin was born in Olean, New York. She has written film reviews and a children's picture book.  Her fiction has appeared in The Massachusetts Review and The Best American Short Stories: 1982. Her most recent collection of short prose is Troubled by his Complexion (Burning Deck, 1988). She lives in San Francisco with Lou Roberts, and is studying to be an art therapist.
