From Dust Habit

by Trane DeVore

A Witness

Awaiting the reciprocation of speech
like another's breath in the mouth,

in the eyes reflected
some silver things (like scales)

"I thought of sequins last time."

and eyelids, the way we
pulled them back as kids

to reveal the almost pornographic red.

At Sea

1.

The most incredible window in a wink
or shy glance sideways     (the small peek):

"These things create the itch."

2.

                      A silver ring,

                                    your mouth,

a small moment I met you in:

                                       the boats,    the water,

               some shades of grey,

wind and dust across the decking.

Accident

The sound of bells from the man's exploding engine.
